Sean Perrin “Dreamsongs”

About Dreamsongs

Dreamsongs explores the music of Philip Glass and Chick Corea uniquely arranged for clarinet and mallet percussion. Elements of improvisation intertwine with the arrangements to create a listening experience that is “Beautiful in playing, sound, and concept” (Evan Ziporyn, MIT).

On its release day, Dreamsongs peaked at #5 on the iTunes Jazz charts.

The 6-panel digipack edition is limited to 500 physical copies, of which less that 180 remain.

Dreamsongs was recorded in January 2016 at OCL Studios with the support of an Alberta Foundation for the arts grant, The Calgary Musicians’ Association, and over 30 backers on Kickstarter.

This CD has stayed in my Car’s CD player for about 3 months now. I have listened to it when I’m driving via my CD player and I have also listened to Dreamsongs at home from my computer via Spotify. In Dreamsongs, Sean weaves creative improvisations with his clarinet, telling memorable stories with his music. I find each movement to be very singable and the melodies tend to stay with me long after I have finished listening. Sean’s tone is perfectly suited to this music and his arrangements work so well for percussion and clarinet. The whole album is actually quite charming – it simultaneously calms me while giving me an inner smile. Nice work Sean! I’ll be looking forward to more albums from you!

Very soothing and relaxing trance-like music, just as one might expect from an album described as minimalistic. But this music is quite accessible from the trained musician to the two year old listening in the backseat of a car. Beautifully recorded and well-executed, this album is a gem!
